One of the earlier amateur teams, the San Antonio Charros became one of the new league's first teams. The Charros joined five other clubs from Austin, Fort Worth, Houston, Oklahoma City, and Wichita Falls to establish the American Football Association. The team played five summer seasons with a mix of teams coming and going. The Charros won the first championship and played as the Charros until they changed names and became the San Antonio Bulls for the last two seasons.
