Description: After the war, Charles ‘Champ’ Carpenter opened Champ’s Bait & Tackle in Colchester, Vermont, right off of Lake Champlain. Champ got his nickname after winning countless fishing derby’s and competitions, something he always attributed to his homemade lures and bait blends. By the late ’60s, Champ decided to play up sharing a name with the mythical creature said to inhabit Lake Champlain and added a drawing of Champ (or Champy) to his signage and packaging and the rest, as they say, is history. Wait, there’s a lake monster named Champ? Yes, yes there is. Since the late 1800s, there have been over 300 reported sightings of Champ, the mythical creature said to inhabit Lake Champlain. Champ’s folklore can be traced back to Iroquois legends.
Description: A circular emblem features a fish illustration in the center. Above the fish, arched text reads "FRESH BAIT, QUESTIONABLE ADVICE". Below the fish, large bold text spells out "ROCKY'S BAIT SHOP". At the bottom, smaller text states "NAVY PIER, CHICAGO". The emblem has a distressed, retro texture.
Description: For just over three decades, Manhattanites filed into Live Bait's lo-fi storefront beneath the holdover '50s era neon 'bar restaurant' sign for authentic low country cuisine just across from New York's Madison Square Park. The establishment maintained a "dive-bar chic" vibe, with decor that looks as if it was taken from a garage sale. As the name might imply, Live Bait delivered a diverse seafood menu from the coastal estuaries around Charleston and Savannah that celebrated low country cooking's vibrant African influence, and strong parallels with New Orleans and Cajun cuisine.
Description: A dynamic depiction of a marlin in motion, rendered with bold lines and shading. Above, "GLOUCESTER" curves in textured orange letters. Below, "BAIT & TACKLE" forms an arc in the same orange, with "North Shore" and "MASSACHUSETTS" in smaller, contrasting blue text. "SINCE 1969" appears twice, flanking the marlin.
