Description: Here is one of the great monuments of Venetian baroque, the beautiful and imposing basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. Consecrated in 1687, the church that "guards" the entrance to the Grand Canal was built as a form of thanksgiving for those who survived a plague that decimated about 30% of the population between 1630 and 1631. Built by Baldassare Longhena, the basilica has an octagonal shape, domes that can be seen from various parts of the city and a facade filled with statues of angels and saints. The interior of the temple also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of beauty and magnificence, the main altar, for example, is entirely in Baroque style and was designed by the same creator of the basilica.
