Description: Johann Braun opened City Brewery in 1846. Valentin Blatz established a brewery next door in 1850 and merged both breweries upon Braun's death in 1852. After a fire destroyed much of the original brewery in 1872, Blatz was able to enlarge and update his facilities with new brewing technology. In 1875, Blatz was the first Milwaukee brewery to have a bottling department to package beer and ship nationally. It incorporated as the Valentin Blatz Brewing Company in 1889. In 1891, the company sold part of its brewing interests to an English syndicate. By the 1900s it was the city's third-largest brewer. Description: Schmitz said he and co-owner Larry Schmitz sold the property to the adjacent RaceTrac gas station. Cousins Lawrence “Bigun” and Leonard Schmitz opened Club Schmitz in January 1946 after returning from World War II. Leonard’s son, Bob, and Bigun’s son, Larry, took over the business in the late 1970s. Bob Schmitz, 60, said he was “torn” about closing Club Schmitz, but said now he and Larry, 64, will look to do something new. He said he doesn’t see a new Club Schmitz location happening at the moment. There aren’t any big celebrations planned, Bob Schmitz said, as customers, many of whom are friends, will come in to pay their respects.

Description: Jackson Brewing Company was a regional brewery operating in New Orleans, from 1890 to 1974. The brewery was founded by Lawrence Fabacher in 1890 as Jackson Bohemian Brewery; its name was later changed to Jax Beer, and finally Jackson Brewing Company, after Andrew Jackson and Jackson Square. It soon grew to be a prominent regional brewery, and at its height, it was the largest brewery in the south, and was one of two New Orleans breweries to survive Prohibition. Its French Quarter brewery remains a landmark in New Orleans, as after brewing operations ceased, the facility was turned into a mixed use space containing residences, shops, and restaurants.

Description: Goebel Brewing Company was a brewing company in Detroit, Michigan from 1873 to 1964 eventually acquired late in its existence by Stroh Brewery Company. The beer was locally popular in Detroit from the company's inception, but grew in popularity and was eventually available in many states for a brief period in the 1940s, with an ad campaign in Life magazine that featured restaurant ads from many famous eateries around the country using Goebel beer as an ingredient. The beer, billed as a "light lager", was golden in color, and was noticeably drier than most everyday beers of the era. Their longtime mascot was a bantam, called Brewster Rooster, who wore attire with Goebel's logo, and the beer was a long-time sponsor of Detroit Tigers baseball.

Early items can still be valuable as can rarer types of items. As a Pre-Prohibition Brewery, any advertising items or collectibles are likely to be valuable and desirable to collectors as they tend to be hard to find. Phillip Jung Brewing Co was in an active brewing city. Milwaukee, WI was listed as having 74 breweries, which is quite a few. Sometimes a large number of breweries can lead to an active collecting community that will be willing to pay more for breweriana items than other collectors.
