Betsy Ross House Socks

Description: Betsy Ross's grandson told the story in 1870. Her granddaughter backed him up. Within a decade, people were lining up on Arch Street to see the house. The flag connection stuck and the building got a historic designation out of it.

Description: Nobody can prove Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag in this house. Her grandson said she did, in 1870. No one alive could contradict him. Philadelphia has been running with the story ever since.
