Description: Radio Veronica was a Dutch pirate radio station that began broadcasting in 1960 from a ship anchored in the North Sea, catching much ire from authorities. It was set up by independent radio, TV, and household electrical retailers in the Netherlands to stimulate the sales of radio receivers by providing an alternative to the state-licensed stations of the Netherlands. Broadcasts began on April 21, 1960, with the station announcing itself as VRON (Vrije Radio Omroep Nederland; Free Radio Station [of the] Netherlands) but changed to Radio Veronica, after the poem "Het Zwarte Schaap Veronica" (The Black Sheep Veronica) by the children's poet Annie M. G. Schmidt. Radio Veronica became the most popular station in the Netherlands.
Description: Illegal Radio is my first record as a leader. I recorded the song Phone Home. I used (3) three sticks. Two sticks playing the continuous up and down 16th/32nd note high hat pattern with a mandolin roll. I used one stick to play the two and four backbeat on the snare drum and floor tom. Since this 1984 recording, I abandoned using the ‘Mandolin Roll’ as I’ve developed a better mousetrap for playing 16th notes. This was very early in my Q4T playing. I was happy to pull it off.
Description: Z Rock was a nationally syndicated radio network based in Dallas, Texas, that played heavy metal and hard rock music. The format was one of several 24-hour satellite-delivered music formats offered by the pioneering Satellite Music Network. Z Rock debuted on Labor Day in 1986, and during its early days, Z Rock drew attention for playing unedited, explicit versions of songs. In March 1990, Z Rock was nominated for a Billboard Award, the only time a full-time hard rock/metal programming service had ever been honored. Despite numerous firsts and solid popularity, after numerous changes in personnel and tweaks in the programming direction, the network was discontinued on December 31, 1996.
