Description: Cal-Nev-Ari is a tiny unincorporated community in southern Nevada, located along U.S. Route 95 between Las Vegas and Laughlin. Founded in the mid-60s by aviation enthusiast and entrepreneur Slim Kidwell and his wife Nancy, the town's unusual name is a combination of California, Nevada, and Arizona, reflecting its location near the borders of all three states. Built around a small decommissioned World War II training airstrip, Cal-Nev-Ari was envisioned as a self-contained desert community complete with a motel, casino, restaurant, and residential lots. Despite never growing into the bustling aviation town its founder imagined, it developed a loyal population of residents drawn to its quiet desert setting and independent spirit.
