Description: The 1st Cavalry Division next fought in the Vietnam War. No longer a conventional infantry unit, the division had become an air assault division as the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), commonly referred to as the 1st Air Cavalry Division. The use of helicopters on such large scale as troop carriers, cargo lift ships, medevacs, and as aerial rocket artillery, was never before implemented, but by doing so it freed the infantry from the tyranny of terrain to attack the enemy at the time and place of its choosing. In 1965, colors and subordinate unit designations of the 1st Cavalry Division were transferred from Korea to Fort Benning, Georgia, where they were used to reflag the existing 11th Air Assault Division (Test) into 1st Cavalry Divisio

Description: Cat Ladies Cavalry No. 2: We are the Cavalry — A group of determined Cat Ladies, each riding a powerful, fierce-looking cat as they charge forward across a rugged landscape. The central figure, wearing a cowboy hat and a bold expression, leads the charge with an intensity that symbolizes strength, unity, and defiance. This artwork captures the sentiment felt by many American women in an election season where their rights—particularly reproductive and healthcare rights—are at risk. With decisions often influenced by a predominantly male political system, this image becomes a powerful rallying cry: women, unified and resolute, are their own cavalry, riding in to protect their voices and autonomy on a dark (Knocked Out) background

Description: For the majority of the Vietnam war, the principal weapon of the door gunner was a medium machine gun (MG), initially, a M1919A4 .30 caliber MG, and soon thereafter, the M60 7.62mm MG became the standard helicopter door armament system. Initially however not all helicopters were armed or outfitted with a dedicated MG for door armament. For example the very first U.S. Army helicopter units, flying CH-21 helicopters, that began flying combat missions in Vietnam in 1962 didn't. Therefore door gunners on Vietnam photographs are sometimes seen using an M1 Carbine, an M14 rifle, or an M16 rifle, as their only weapon. Initially, the door gunner's MG weapons were mounted on swiveling mounts (on a pintle mount) in order to retain and stea...
