Description: The French cockade was created by the politician and participant of the Great French Revolution Marquis Gilbert Lafayette in June 1789. The marquis combined the white monarchical color with blue and red, which were considered revolutionary. The cockade was made of a cloth ribbon folded into a round rosette. In the French army, this identification mark is used to this day with slight variations in the image.
