Description: The Austin Texans were a minor league professional football team that played in the AFA from 1977 to 1981. The American Football Association (AFA) was a professional American football minor league that operated from 1977 to 1983. The AFA was concentrated in the southern United States and served as the second tier of professional football. The league played its games on Saturday nights in the summer (beginning its season Memorial Day weekend and ending in August) to avoid direct competition against other football in the fall. The AFA ended operations in 1983.
Description: Beginning with a single store at Century Plaza in Birmingham, Alabama in 1977, Just For Feet became one of the largest and fastest growing athletic chains in America. By 1999, Just For Feet had over 140 superstores in 25 states. Several features helped to distinguish Just for Feet stores from its competitors, including in-store basketball courts, walls of TVs airing sporting events, in-store appearances by professional athletes, loud rock and dance music setting the scene, and in-store snack bars. Despite things looking up for Just For Feet, a 1999 game day TV spot ended up being their undoing after the ad was decried as being racist. The sharp decline in sales helped to expose widespread accounting fraud, leading to Just For Feet's demise.

Description: Founded by Herman Steinlauf in 1916 as a music store, Herman’s World of Sporting Goods was a large chain of sporting goods stores in the United States. At one time, there was a gentleman’s agreement with west coast competitor, Oshman’s Sporting Goods, that the Herman’s chain would stay east of the Mississippi, while Oshman’s would be dominant on the west coast. Later on, Herman’s did expand west with the acquisition of Salt Lake City-based Sunset Sports Centers, although this was short-lived. By 1992, Herman’s had 259 stores in 35 states, but the entered into bankruptcy in 1993, first closing stores in the New York metropolitan area, then the New York City stores.
