During the 1980 and 1981 seasons the Spartans held their home games at Hyde Park Stadium. The Spartans played in the Atlantic Football Conference in 1979, the Mid-Atlantic Football League in 1980 and 1981. After 3 seasons with losing records the team closed its doors in 1981.

They compiled an overall record of 47–66–7 (.421). After the 1993 season, the Bulldogs were relocated to Utica, New York and became the Utica Bulldogs.

The team was very successful in Syracuse, reaching the NBA final in both 1950 and 1954 both times losing to the Minneapolis Lakers. They finally broke through in 1955, taking their first, and only, NBA title by defeating the Fort Wayne Pistons 92-91 on April 10,1955, taking the series 4-3.The team posted winning records in 11 of its 14 seasons in Syracuse. Many in Central New York lament the day, May 16, 1963, when the Nats departed Syracuse to become the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Broncos started out as the Swift Current Broncos in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, but moved to Lethbridge in 1974.
