Description: This station was the last of three stations built in Dunedin between 1873 and 1906. It was completed in 1907 and became the largest and busiest railway station in New Zealand. It was designed in Flemish Renaissance style by the Railways Department chief architect George Troup. Construction is primarily from two types of Otago stone, the dark volcanic stone from Kokonga and a limestone from the Oamaru district. The columns are of Aberdeen granite (information from plaque).
