Filipino Sticker Socks
Description: Halo-halo, also spelled haluhalo, Tagalog for "mix-mix", is a popular cold dessert in the Philippines made up of crushed ice, evaporated milk or coconut milk, and various ingredients including side dishes such as ube jam (ube halaya), sweetened kidney beans or garbanzos, coconut strips, sago, gulaman (agar), pinipig, boiled taro, leche flan, slices of fruit and root crop preserves. The dessert is topped with a scoop of ube ice cream. I remixed this design with the great wave as the ice in the halo-halo. Description: “Bahala na” (bah-hah-la nah) is a Filipino expression used to express an attitude of optimistic acceptance or fatalistic resignation in an uncertain or difficult situations. In the Philippines the fatalistic attitude is reflective of the Catholicism of the Filipino people, who entrust their fate in the hands of God. Many times bahala na is a saying that expresses a mentality that despite one's free will, one cannot do anything about the larger existing circumstances of their situation. Description: Bawal umihi dito: It is an ubiquitous injunction in urban spaces, often boldly painted onto walls, and it translates to "it is forbidden to urinate here". The audience? Filipino men, many of whom continue to take the liberty of emptying their bladders in front of walls, electric posts, and yes, jeepney tires. Go to any densely-populated nooks of the metropolis and there's no denying the pungent odor of piss, which ironically juxtaposes with the aforementioned sign, as if to affirm its relevance by its violation. Description: AMPING is a Cebuano or Visayan word in the Philippines. It means to treat something with care, to be careful with something.
