Description: "Tricolored Heron Preening by Water" I always enjoy walking the boardwalks on South Padre Island, especially during the quiet morning and evening hours. This Tricolored Heron was beautifully lit by the morning sun as it paused to preen along the waters edge, and even better, it was remarkably close to the boardwalk where I was walking. Photographed at the South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary, home to approximately one mile of boardwalks stretching across brackish wetlands where fresh and salty waters meet.
