Freight Train Socks
Description: In the 1980s, my Dad bought me my first proper trainset, featuring a Class 58 in Railfreight livery (that's the greylivery with the large logo and distinct red bar underneath). I still have that trainset, along many other models, including a Class 37 which caught my eye because of the noses at each end. I've drawn it here in Petroleum Sector livery which was used in the 1980s.

Description: Cabooses, also referred to as 'hacks' in railroad jargon, are one of the more enduring symbols of railroads. With a viewing cupola on the roof, the main role of these cars was so that the crew could watch the train as it moved and ensure there were no issues or disconnects. At one point, railroad crews consisted of up to five men, so the caboose also served as a rolling hotel. Equipped with bunks, a stove, and a bathroom, these cars were home away from home. Like many things, the caboose and her crew were eventually replaced by technology, and train crews launched the 'Trains Are Safer With a Caboose' campaign to save them (and their jobs). Obviously, we know how that turned out, as it's rare sight these days, but they are still around!

This amalgamation included the Grand Trunk Railway, Grand Trunk Pacific, Intercolonial Railway, Canadian Northern Railway, and the National Transcontinental Railway. The formation of CNR aimed to consolidate these lines into a single, more efficient system, primarily focused on freight transport, though it also operated passenger services until 1978, when they were spun off into their own organization.
