Although NeXT hardware struggled commercially due to high costs, its software proved groundbreaking; in fact, Tim Berners-Lee created the first web browser and server on a NeXT machine. In 1997, NeXT was aquired and NeXTSTEP would live on as the foundation of OSX, cementing NeXT’s lasting legacy.
