Carter bought the ailing Van Nuys hardware store in 1949. He introduced the concept of a self-service hardware store with a "do it yourself" training component that became the model for The Home Depot. The Tauber's ran it until retiring in 2016 and selling the business which could change hands a few times before it's closure in 2024. Glen Park Hardware was where locals went for everything from bug spray and screws to plumbing parts and tools, as well as advice, making it much-loved part of the neighborhood for 61 years.
