Description: This print is taken from a 15th century wood carving by the German artist Michael Wolgemut. It serves as a "Memento Mori," meaning "Remember Death" in Latin. Memento mori is the medieval theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. A scene like this is called a "Danse Macabre" or "Dance of Death," which serves as an allegory on the universality of death: no matter one's station in life, the Danse Macabre unites all.
Description: Returning home to Port-au-Prince, Haiti after 12 years of education and practice as an accredited psychologist in the US, Jericho Drumm discovered that his twin brother, Daniel -- the local houngan -- was dying, a victim of a voodoo sorcerer possessed by the spirit of the serpent-god, Damballah, (based on the Loa Damballa). Turning to Daniel's mentor, Papa Jambo, for help, Jericho eventually gains mastery of voodoo practices and becomes Haiti's houngan supreme and champion. Years later he would even take over for Doctor Stephen Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme.
