Description: The Mason and Dixon Lines (Mason-Dixon) was an American trucking company founded by E. Ward King in 1932 in Kingsport, Tennessee. The firm specialized in hauling household goods and building materials, but acquisitions such as C. Murdock Lines and Robinson Transfer Motor Lines added tanker and flatbed service and expanded routes. With a fleet of red tractors and polished aluminum trailers, Mason-Dixon was known as 'The Silver Fleet', grew to be one of the largest privately owned carriers in the U.S. for a time. In 1984, the company experienced significant labor problems, including a strike over pay cuts and driver demands. Coupled with operating in a post-deregulation America, Mason-Dixon wasn't able to weather the storm.
