Description: Blender Magazine was an American music publication that billed itself as “the ultimate music magazine” and, later, “the ultimate guide to music and more.” Aside from in depth, cross-genre coverage of music, the magazine was also known for their steamy pictorials of celebrities. It compiled lists of albums, artists, and songs, including both “best of” and “worst of” lists. In each issue, there was a review of an artist’s entire discography, with each album being analyzed in turn. Blender’s edgy writing and gratuitous photos may not have been for everyone, but the publication was without question what a modern music magazine should be, and their 15-year run proves that consumers agreed.

Description: Record Mirror was a British weekly music magazine that chronicled the rapidly changing pop landscape from its launch in 1954 until its closure in 1991. One of the earliest British publications devoted specifically to popular music, it covered everything from rock ’n’ roll and the British Invasion to punk, new wave, disco, synth-pop, and dance music. Alongside interviews, reviews, photographs, and industry news, Record Mirror became particularly valuable for its extensive record charts, eventually publishing the official UK charts used by mainstream media. During the '80s, it developed an especially strong reputation for covering club culture and emerging scenes, giving space to genres and artists that received little attention elsewhere.
Description: Sounds was a UK weekly pop/rock music newspaper, published from October 10, 1970 to April 6, 1991. It was known for including posters in the center of the paper (initially black and white, then color from late 1971) and later for covering heavy metal (especially the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM)), punk, Oi! music in its late '70s–early '80s heyday. It was produced by Spotlight Publications, which was set up by John Thompson and Jo Saul with Jack Hutton and Peter Wilkinson, who left Melody Maker to start their own company. Sounds was their first project, a weekly paper devoted to progressive rock and described by Hutton, to those he was attempting to recruit from his former publication, as "a leftwing Melody Maker."
