Description: The ocean sunfish is such a fascinating fish! Known for swimming and basking flat along the surface perhaps to warm up from the sun (hence their name) they are the heaviest of the bony fishes-- growing up to 14 feet vertically and weighing up to 5,000 lb. They're almost like flat pancake fish with barely any tail fin to speak of. They can release up to 300 million eggs at a time and their hatchlings are so small that by the time they've reached adulthood they are 60 million times larger! I've printed this hand-carved lino print then scanned it to make this design.
