Description: I have been reading over gothic literature while homeschooling my child and the other day I cracked open my Edgar Allen Poe and read through it and immediately thought of a this scene. A raven perches on an anatomically detailed heart, surrounded by a wreath of red roses intertwined with barbed wire. The composition juxtaposes elements of nature, anatomy, and gothic symbolism.

Description: Charles Pierre Baudelaire was a French poet who also produced notable work as an essayist, art critic, and one of the first translators of Edgar Allan Poe. His poems exhibit mastery in the handling of rhyme and rhythm, contain an exoticism inherited from Romantics, but are based on observations of real life.
