Each grind he designed for each application was better than the last, and before he knew it, he had a full time business and Racer Brown Cams 1960 became synonymous with high performance racing engines throughout the '60s and well into the '70s.

Description: Oswego Drag Raceway opened in Illinois in 1955 as one of the first purpose-built drag strips in the country. Most drag strips were built on abandoned runways, but Oswego was built from scratch by Dan and Wally Smith. The brothers had inherited the farmland it sat on from their parents. The Oswego Dragway became a go-to hangout for the youth in the greater Chicago area, but increasingly fierce competition made it much more than a hangout for diehard racers. The Oswego Drag Raceway operated until 1979 and the remnants of the drag strip can still be seen from Route 34, west of Oswego if you know where to look as you pass by.

Description: The Ford FE engine is a V8 used in vehicles sold in the North American market between 1958 and 1976. The FE was introduced to replace the short-lived Ford Y-block engine, which American cars and trucks were outgrowing. It was designed with room to be significantly expanded, and manufactured both as a top-oiler and side-oiler, and in displacements between 332 cu in and 428 cu in.The Ford single overhead cam (SOHC) 427 V8 engine, familiarly known as the "Cammer," was released in 1964 in an effort to maintain stock car racing dominance by seeking to counter the enormously large block 426 Hemi "elephant" engines. Description: Carter Carburetor Company in St. Louis, Missouri, was established in 1909 by William Carter, who started experimenting with carburetors while running a successful bicycle shop. His first cast brass carb could meter and deliver fuel more accurately than many competing units, and easily found a place in the market. Carter became a major OEM supplier to Detroit. In 1971, they introduced the ThermoQuad four barrel. It was available in two sizes, rated according to air flow – 850 and 1000 CFM. The higher flow model was the largest street carburetor in terms of air flow when released, and was a factory part on many of the muscle cars of the era. Gear heads have a love/hate relationship with ThermoQuads, in that they either love or hate them.
Description: Igniting the air/fuel mixture in high performance racing engines is not an easy task to begin with, but factor in high compression, extreme boost pressures, exotic fuels, and a litany of other variables, and it can become near impossible. In the mid- '80s, Snake Bite Ignition Systems set out to design a complete ignition solution that was not only easy to dial in for any high performance engine application, but was daily driver reliable. From their shop in Phoenix, Arizona, Snake Bite's sophisticated hand fabricated systems were capable of lighting the fire in even the nastiest of big blocks, while still being able to control timing to one-tenth of a degree for one hundredth of a second in any cylinder through individual cylinder timing.
