Trix Records Socks

Description: Trix Records was an American independent record label, which was set up in 1972, by the folklorist Peter B. Lowry. It lasted just under a decade as an active label dealing mainly with Piedmont blues artists from the Southeastern states (the focus of Lowry's folkloric field research), together with the anthology Detroit After Hours, a collection of Detroit piano players. The label's last release was by David "Honeyboy" Edwards in 1978, although Lowry continued recording until 1980 with Cephas & Wiggins. Lowry's long-time partner, Roberta Casey, ran things in the 1990s and helped in arranging the sale of its eighteen issued LP master tapes to Joe Fields of Muse Records.

99 Records 1980 Socks
Main Tag:

Description: Founded in 1980, quintessential New York City label, 99 Records (pronounced “nine-nine,” not “ninety-nine”), was among the most influential independent labels of its time, with an influence still reverberates today. The label’s sound was every bit as distinct and as it was diverse, touching on post-punk, disco, dub reggae and even avant-classical, highlighted by exhilarating experiments in minimalist art-funk, and polyrhythmic grooves. Despite being a shoestring operation run out of a record store, 99 sold an unbelievable number of records with minimal distribution, and was at one point the most successful indie label in New York City.

Bleecker Bob's Records Socks
Main Tag:

Description: From its walls festooned with posters, photographs, and rare LPs, to the sound system blasting anything from deep soul to death metal, a visit to Bleecker Bob's was a genuine rock 'n' roll experience even if you were "just looking." Musicians from the Patti Smith Group and New York Dolls are among those who have manned the cash register at Bleecker Bob's, which was finally pushed out by the outrageous Greenwich Village rent. Bob Plotnik passed away on November 29, 2018, leaving behind the kind of legacy few record store owners could even dream of.

Time Travelers Seattle 1977 Socks
Main Tag:

Description: Time Travelers opened their doors at 1511 2nd Avenue in Downtown Seattle back in 1977 with a focus on everything that parents hate, and it was truly glorious. With a perfect mix of punk records, skateboards, weird comic books, and t-shirts to go along with all of the above, Time Travelers had it all. This was a unique space for the kids who either didn't fit in with the mainstream, or simply didn't want to. Time Travelers managed to exist in what is considered prime real estate nowadays throughout the '80s and into the '90s before exorbitant rent increases made the store's very existence an impossibility.

Turtle’s Records & Tapes // 70s Vintage Socks

Description: Turtle’s Records and Tapes was a Southern USA retail chain, based in Atlanta, that specialized in selling cassettes, records, and concert tickets; in the latter years of the chain’s existence, it also rented movies in VHS format. Turtle’s was recognized for its trademark logo, an upright standing turtle with its neck twisted around in several coils as he attempts to look backward. It was known for its deep selection and one of the most varied video rental offerings in its markets before the arrival of the big chains such as Blockbuster Inc. Small gold coins with a turtle on one side and a record on the other were issued by the stores for gift certificates. Owned and incorporated by Al Levenson in 1977, the chain was regional in nature, conc

Dr. Demento 1970 Socks
Main Tag:

Description: In 1970, Barret Eugene Hansen created the Dr. Demento persona and show at KPPC-FM in Pasadena, California, playing novelty songs and unusual recordings, which was the beginning of his long-running career in comedy music broadcasting. The name "Dr. Demento" was inspired by a fellow DJ's comment after Hansen played a Nervous Norvus song, saying that Hansen must be "demented" to play such a terrible track, and the name stuck. What started as a rock oldies show evolved into an all-novelty music format due to positive listener response. 1970 through 1973 marked the pre-syndication era of the show, before its national reach began in 1974.
