Originally built in the early 1900s as a Queen Anne-style home named "El Nido" by William and Sarah Avery, the property was transformed over the decades into a 23-unit motel. In 1922, a 13-unit bungalow court was added, and by the 1950s, it operated as the Hollywood Center Motel, offering amenities like a "super heated pool" and continental breakfast. The motel has a storied past, featured in films and TV shows such as L.A. Confidential, The Rockford Files, and the 1972 film Hit Man. However, it gained notoriety for its seedy reputation, including a 1963 armed robbery and a 1986 murder linked to the Billionaire Boys Club
