The Santa Maria Socks
Description: A circular emblem depicting the Santa Maria city skyline with skyscrapers and a church spire, set against a rising sun with rays and clouds. The text "SANTA MARIA" arches over the top, and "The City of Memories" is written below. All elements are rendered in a monochrome, stippled line-art style.
Description: The huge Duomo located in the Piazza dei Maracoli (Square of Miracles) in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy. The Duomo is 100 yards long, with a massive nave, flanked by two aisles and 68 monolithic columns, in the Romanesque style. The pulpit, considered by many as the most beautiful in Italy, was carved by Giovanni Pisano, who also did much of the carving in the baptistry. In 1987 the whole square was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. BEST VIEWED LARGER
Description: Florence's Duomo is the city's most iconic landmark. Capped by Filippo Brunelleschi's red-tiled cupola, it's a staggering construction whose breathtaking pink, white and green marble facade and graceful campanile (bell tower) dominate the medieval cityscape. Sienese architect Arnolfo di Cambio began work on it in 1296, but construction took almost 150 years and it wasn't consecrated until 1436. I took this photo on a visit there and gave it a painterly treatment in CC and Topaz.
