Description: The ZH Fairlane addressed earlier complaints about the model being too close to the Falcon in appearance. The re-style gave the car more bulk and a luxury impression. The styling was reminiscent of the 1968 Mercury Marquis. The range-topping LTD went further upmarket with a fancy, Rolls-Royce-inspired grille (not dissimilar to that found on the Continental Mark V. Description: HOLDEN TORANA SL/R 5000 Holden’s V8-engined Torana came to be at a time when parts of the world were turning their back on fuel-guzzling cars. Parts of the world excluding Australia anyway. What the SL/R 5000 had on its side was swagger. The SLR was an emblem of the cashed-up bogan; brash and loud with the looks and aerodynamics of a Besser (concrete) block. Description: Stylistically, the XD was strongly influenced by the European Ford Granada Mark II of 1977. The only common components shared between the Granada and the Falcon however were the headlights. The one-piece lift-up tailgate for the Falcon station wagon, the first seen on a locally-developed station wagon, was taken directly from the American Ford Fairmont.
