Description: In Celtic culture, the mysterious image of a horned being permeates from the Iron Age in the Gaulish La Tène culture all the way up to 19th century England in the legends of Herne the Hunter. In spite of several depictions of a “horned god” in Celtic artwork throughout the centuries, the answers to exactly who this horned being was is not clear. The name “Cernunnos” is found on an artifact known as “the Pillar of the Boatman”. It’s a carving from the first century CE, and it is the only time the name Cernunnos appears in reference to this horned being. However, the oldest image of Cernunnos is found on the Gundestrup Cauldron, an Iron Age relic of the ancient Celtic people of mainland Europe. Modern interpretation speculates that C...
Description: Hermes is a god of transitions and boundaries. He is quick and cunning, and moves freely between the worlds of the mortal and divine, as emissary and messenger of the gods, intercessor between mortals and the divine, and conductor of souls into the afterlife. He is protector and patron of travelers, herdsmen, thieves, orators and wit, literature and poets, athletics and sports, invention and trade. In some myths he is a trickster, and outwits other gods for his own satisfaction or the sake of humankind. Hermes is identified with the Roman god, Mercury. The image used here is pulled from a 19th century illustration and edited (Manual of Mythology, by Alexander S. Murray; Revised Edition, Philadelphia: David McKay, Publisher, 1895).

Description: ⚖️ Justice is a card symbolizing truth and fairness in its upright position while representing dishonesty and a lack of accountability in its reversed position. For this card, we decided that the Grim Reaper would be the best representation of unbiased justice. . ☠️The Grim Reaper is a symbol of death, yes, but he is not the decision-maker. He does the bidding of the universe, coming for people only when their time on Earth is through. He is a blind symbol of the universal law and order of life and death. . ??Here, he sits on a throne in front of a tattered purple veil that is hung between two pillars. The color purple signifies compassion, and the pillars signify balance and structure. . ⚔️In his right hand, he holds a double-edge...
Description: For Death, we decided that The Morrigan was the perfect character. In this card, we see The Morrigan, her raven’s wings in motion as she hovers above her crowd of victims. She is the Celtic goddess of birth and death, and as such is the perfect embodiment of what this card symbolises. Also known as the Phantom Queen, The Morrigan is more well-known for her relationship with death and the battlefield. Her association with battle implies that she is an indiscriminate bringer of death. The inevitable cycle of life and death cannot be controlled or evaded. Her presence in this card serves as a reminder of that all important truth. -- She is dressed in black as a metaphor for mourning. Around her neck is a necklace depicting a white flower...
