St Peter Port, Guernsey Number of views as of 8th June 2017 = 430. St Peter Port (or St Pierre Port) is the capital of the Channel Island of Guernsey and is also the island's main port. Steep, narrow streets lead up from the busy harbour to the town that has existed here for at least 2000 years. Castle Cornet guards the entrance to the harbour where the ferries carry visitors from the English ports of Poole, Portsmouth and Weymouth, St Malo in France and the neighbouring islands of Jersey, Herm and Sark. Albion House Tavern, St Peter Port Number of views as of 26th February 2018 = 1380. Dating from 1780, this tavern is one of the buildings that overlook St Peter Port harbour in the Channel Island of Guernsey. I haven't checked, but apparently Albion House is in the Guinness Book of Records because it is the closest pub to a church in Britain. Date: 22nd August 2014. High Speed Cat Number of views as of 29th August 2018 = 620. One of three high-speed catamarans formerly operated on routes linking the English ports of Poole and Weymouth, the French port of St Malo and the Channel Island ports of St Peter Port (Guernsey) and St Helier (Jersey). This 'cat' and her sister ships were built by a Tasmanian company (Incat) and were registered in Nassau in the Bahamas. The vessels are 86 metres (282 feet) long, weigh 5000 tonnes, can carry 800 passengers and 200 vehicles, and have a maximum speed of 40 knots. Date: 23rd August 2014. Paint Them Yellow Number of views as of 18th March 2018 = 680. People all over the world are familiar with Britain's red telephone boxes. However, on the Channel Island of Guernsey, the boxes are identical to their British counterparts except for their colour. They were originally painted yellow when Guernsey Telecoms was state-owned, but from 2002 they were painted blue. These boxes at St Peter Port bus station were blue but in 2009, yellow made a comeback. Fascinating stuff eh, the long winter evenings must just fly by. Date: 23rd August 2014. Castle Cornet Number of views as of 23rd January 2018 = 640. Castle Cornet (St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands) was originally a medieval castle dating from the 13th century. Extensively modified over the centuries, the castle still stands guard over the entrance to the town harbour. This shot shows the town clock tower and one of several gardens within the castle walls, this one being the Sutler's garden, now planted as a 16th century herb garden. Date: 22nd August 2014.
