designed and sold by TambuStore
Manguebeat (also spelled as manguebit or mangue beat) is a movement and counterculture that emerged in Brazil in 1991 in Recife (Pernambuco), which mixes regional rhythms, such as maracatu, with rock, hip hop, funk and electronic music. The movement has as main characteristics in the lyrics, criticisms of the economic and social abandonment of the mangrove, of the inequality of Recife (being only a reflection of the neglect of the State outside the Rio-São Paulo axis.) Being the crab, a typical way of life of mangroves, which is captured and sold by workers in the region, it became the symbol of the Manguebeat movement.
