Looking upstream of the River Thames towards the market town of Abingdon in Oxfordshire. Overhead gulls are wheeling and crying whilst two ducks paddle by. In the background is the spire of St Helen's church which dates form the early 12th century. A landmark in the area, it inspired the artist JMW Turner, featuring in a painting titled 'Abingdon'. Although now in Oxfordshire, Abingdon was, until 1867, the county town of Berkshire before that status was transferred to Reading.
