Getting distracted by Castle Hill for a couple of days we had to cancel our hikes in Arthur's Pass, leaving just enough time for the impressive Devils Punchbowl waterfall!

Christopher Cross (born Christopher Charles Geppert; May 3, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter from San Antonio, Texas. He won five Grammy Awards for his eponymous debut album released in 1979. The singles "Sailing" (1980), and "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" (from the 1981 film Arthur) peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. "Sailing" earned three Grammys in 1981, while "Arthur's Theme" won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1981 (with co-composers Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager and Peter Allen).

Once we crossed Arthur's Pass on the road between the South Island's west and east coasts, the landscape drastically changed. Gone were the lush green forests of the west coast; they had been replaced with an almost arid, mottled brown landscape. As you would expect with NZ, though, it was still stunningly gorgeous!

The Bonscale Towers are two cairns located on the ascent upto Bonscale Pike from the Martindale area of the Lake District. The ascent in this rea gives fantastic views onto Ullswater, before the track takes you away from the Ullswater towards Arthurs Pike, High Street, Loadpot Hill, before descending back to Martindale.
