Benjamin Franklin Snake Stickers
Description: In 1754, Benjamin Franklin produced the 'Join, or Die' cartoon to highlight the importance of colonial unity. It later became a symbol of colonial freedom during the American Revolutionary War. The design consists of a snake, cut into 8, with each piece representing one of the American colonies or regions.
Description: For those that aren't familiar with the "Join, or Die" graphic, it is a historic image created by Benjamin Franklin around 1754 and represents the quest for strength and freedom through solidarity. Each part of the snake represents one of the first colonies of the United States.
Description: 1765 rendition of Benjamin Franklin's famous political cartoon urging unity among the colonies during the American Revolution. The design was used by numerous colonial newspapers as part of it's masthead. This particular design was used by The Boston Evening Post. I have a few variations of the design available.
Description: A monochrome representation of a segmented snake coiled in an 'S' shape. The text 'Pennsylvania Gazette' is at the top. The snake's body is divided into sections, each containing letters representing colonies. Below the snake, the prominent text reads 'JOIN, or DIE' followed by 'Strength against our enemies through Unity' and '-Benjamin Franklin'.
Description: Join, or Die. is a political cartoon showing the disunity in the American colonies, originally in the context of the French and Indian War in 1754. Attributed to Benjamin Franklin, the original publication by The Pennsylvania Gazette on May 9, 1754. The cartoon is a woodcut showing a snake cut into eighths, with each segment labeled with the initials of one of the American colonies or regions. New England was represented as one segment, rather than the four colonies it was at that time. Delaware was not listed separately as it was part of Pennsylvania. Georgia, however, was omitted completely. As a result, it has eight segments of a snake rather than the traditional 13 colonies.
