K1 62005 was designed by the London and North Eastern Railway, built by the North British Locomotive Company in their Queen’s Park Works, Glasgow as NBL no 26609 and delivered to the fledgling British Railways in June 1949. It was condemned on 30 December 1967 and eventually sold to a consortium of Viscount Garnock, Geoff Drury, Brian Hollingsworth and George Nissen on 30 May 1969 for the boiler to be saved as a spare for the K4 61994 (LNER 3442) The Great Marquess, which they had bought. No 62005 had only survived until then because it had been used for a brief period as a temporary stationary boiler on the ICI North Tees Works. Putting on tights

N°4498 Sir Nigel Gresley was the 100th Gresley Pacific built by the Great Northern Railway / London and North Eastern Railway. Built at Doncaster as works N°1863, the locomotive entered service in 1937 following a naming ceremony at Marylebone station on 26th November. The locomotive was mainly based at London King's Cross, with a spell at Grantham during World War II, and was briefly re-numbered as N°7 before becoming N°60007 when the LNER was merged into British Railways.

Traveling through the villages outside of Tegucigalpa, you just have to stop at one of these many roadside (very small) kitchens and savour the local delicacies. Local corn and Pupusas (bean tortillas) are a must to try. As you can see, there was very little room for me to take a picture without feeling the heat of the fire. All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software. Sunny day after a snow fall in Coal Creek Colorado

926 ‘Repton’ was completed at Eastleigh in May 1934. After a spell at Bournemouth it operated from Fratton (Portsmouth) depot until the Waterloo-Portsmouth route was electrified in July 1937. It was then one of ten ‘Schools’ locomotives transferred to Bournemouth as replacements for ‘King Arthurs’ on the London expresses. It remained at Bournemouth for most of the war, being used on the lighter expresses and, after the war, on inter-regional trains. Further electrification caused more moves of these locomotives and ‘Repton’ was withdrawn from Basingstoke depot, with the remaining members of the class, on 30 December, 1962, just 2 years after a major service.

The Australian snowman

The new build steam locomotive Tornado may look like something from a bygone age but it was, in fact, completed in 2008, built from scratch by a dedicated team of volunteers. In the last decade the engine has found fame on large and small screen, appearing in the PADDINGTON 2 movie and starring in Top Gear’s ‘Race to the North’. Tornado is also famed for reaching 100mph in secret night time tests in 2017, making it the first steam locomotive to reach such high speeds since the 1960s.

This is a watercolor painting of an anthro mouse who is a miner looking for rare crystals! This would be a good gift for grandkids who keep pet rats or geology students.

Dark Satanic Mills Whilst painting outside in the rain I added media/paint to the surface which then washed and spread and finally formed shapes which remained, these reminded me of smoke and dust and pollution rising from an Industrial factories from 1760 to the mid to late 1800's, hence the title. I added some impasto marks to represent, in a semi-abstract way, the factories themselves utilising dark compressed tight hues intersperced with minor flecks of colour thus giving a further perception of atmosphere and depth. This effect, painting technique, can only be achieved by saturating the media, in this case 300lb Saunders Waterford rough hand made water colour paper, which is resilient enough not to degrade yet slowly abs...
