Description: Wild Turkey Strut, colored pencil on drafting film by Conni Schaftenaar A friend who frequently hunts on our farm sets up game cameras on land where he hunts just to track what is passing by. We do have wild turkeys that frequent our farm, but the friend's game camera caught this guy in full turkey strut display on another farm a couple of miles north of us. He gave me permission to use his photo to do this colored pencil work. This will end up in his "man cave" along with a painting I did for him of his hunting dog. Because the color goes to the edge, this colored pencil work is considered a painting, not a drawing.

The adult male and female are similar in appearance, with predominantly golden-yellow plumage and orange-flushed underparts and face. Sun parakeets are very social birds, typically living in flocks. They form monogamous pairs for reproduction, and nest in palm cavities in the tropics. Sun parakeets mainly feed on fruits, flowers, berries, blossoms, seeds, nuts, and insects.
