On my travels, I stumbled into the territory of these fascinating little creatures. They are fierce, and not meant to be messed with.

Wood sprites are highly athletic and nimble, and good at disappearing in plain sight in the woods.

The Gaia series is a collection of whimsical sprites who are spirits of endangered earth systems. The Forest Sprite is inspired by my many hikes and camping trips in forests throughout the US. Late at night, watching campfire embers drift off into the deep starry sky, I sense him out there, watching and waiting with his retinue of winged and scurrying friends. He reminds us of our divine connection to each other and our planet.

A green forest spirit dressed in leaves and flowers photosynthesising and soaking up the sun.

This little sprite and it's tiny friend are on their daily trip out into the world to gather supplies. Though the journey may be long, and it may be hard, the power and love fro a best friend makes it worthwhile.

Water soluble oils on gessoed paper. 14 3/4" x 11 1/4" 2007. The wood sprite creates ripples in his refection as he daydreams. Fairies dance on the lily pads and skate across the water while his leaf boat floats away to dreamland.
