Frome Stickers

This is one of two narrow shopping streets in Frome (pronounced 'froom') in Somerset, UK. Its too narrow for traffic, and has a stream running down a channel in the path. It also has a fabulous selection of independent shops, including a good bookshop and the bakers shown here. You can't see whats inside from here, but I can tell you its full of delicious cakes, tarts, pastries and pies. I've painted this view in oil on a 12x16 inch board. I hope you enjoy looking at all the little details I've included!

River Frome, Wareham, January 2022 The historic market town of Wareham (Dorset, England) is built on a low-lying area of land between the River Frome (pictured here) and the River Piddle (yes, really) to the North. Both rivers flow out into Poole harbour, some eight miles to the east, and are tidal. Wareham has a long history. The current town was founded in Saxon times, but there is evidence of a Roman settlement here, and both Bronze Age and Stone Age artefacts have also been discovered in the area. Date: 30th January 2022.

Carnival Day on Wareham Quay Number of views as of 7th January 2017 = 580. The temperatures in Britain have soared in the last couple of weeks and today was no exception, with the mercury nudging 30 degrees C again. Here in Wareham (Dorset, England) it was carnival day today and locals and visitors alike flocked to the charming, saxon town to watch the carnival procession, enjoy the sunshine or even jump off the bridge into the river Frome (not condoning it of course, but people still do it despite the dangers). The Purbeck Gem is moored on the quayside after unloading passengers from Poole, just over 6 miles away by boat. The Old Granary is ever a popular watering hole whilst Lady St Mary (Wareham's parish church) watches over the scene...

Redclyffe Yacht Club, January 2022 Redclyffe Yacht Club is situated on the River Frome, half a mile downstream from the Saxon town of Wareham (Dorset, England). The club was established by Percy Westerman, who became the club's first commodore. Born in Portsmouth in 1876, Percy and his wife lived not far from here, on a barge, on the river, where he wrote many of his adventure stories for boys, selling more than 1.5 million books by the time of his death in 1959.
