Gyula Stickers

Description: An 1872 academic oil painting by the celebrated Hungarian artist Gyula Benczúr depicts the French Royal Family’s not-so-relaxing final moments at the Palace of Versailles. King Louis XVI slumps in despair, while Queen Marie Antoinette, flanked by her tearful children and dramatic court ladies, braces for the arrival of an uninvited and very cranky mob during the French Revolution. In the doorway, royal guards scramble as if someone just shouted, “They’re in!”
