Description: Paul McGann only played the Doctor on screen twice - for the 1996 TV movie, which was made for an American audience by the Fox Network, and a mini-episode called the 'Night of the Doctor' prior to the 50th Anniversary episode. Fox wanted to use the TV movie as a pilot to launch the show in America but it didn't do well enough and Doctor Who remained in the the dark for another nine years.
