The pigeons, nicknamed Cluck Norris, Coolamity Jane and Billie The Pidge, are being trapped and freed from their hats. Cute as it may be for birds to wear hats, they prevent them from grooming, obscure their vision, making it easier to fall prey to raptors and other predators, and make flight more difficult. The settlement of Las Vegas, Nevada was founded in 1905 after the opening of a railroad that linked Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Urbanization took off in 1931 when work started on the Boulder Dam (now the Hoover Dam), bringing a huge influx of young male workers, for whom theaters and casinos were built, largely by the Mafia. Electricity from the dam also enabled the building of many new hotels along the Strip. Demolished 1/6/94 for the widening of Desert Inn Rd. 71 large, elegantly furnished units with dressing rooms, queen size beds and large family units fit for a king, at low prices to suit every man's purse, plus refrigerated air-conditioning and a heated swimming pool. Several investors tried to remodel and reopen the iconic facility but it sat vacant until 2013 when it was rechristened as the Downtown Grand.

The Riviera opened on April 20, 1955, as the first high-rise at 9 stories, and the ninth resort on the Las Vegas Strip. The Riviera Hotel was one of the oldest and well-known casino resort in Las Vegas Strip. It stopped operating in May 2015 after being bought by The Las Vegas Convention and visitors Authority which scheduled to implode the property as part of the billion-dollar project of expanding the Las Vegas Convention Center.

It has been the Paradise Hotel and Casino, the 20th Century, Hooters, the Pacifica and is currently the Oyo. The California Club operated from 1958 to 1973. Phil Long took over operation of the casino located at the corner of First and Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, 1958.[1] The locals casino catered to local gamblers. It was owned and operated by Phil Long and partner George Milford and was a casino only without any hotel rooms. The California Club was sold to Steve Wynn in 1973. the Las Vegas Gold Key, was located at 3053 Las Vegas Blvd. Opened in 1960. Closed in 1990. Demolished during the Desert Inn Road Super Arterial project It was located across from the Stardust, by the Desert Inn and the Flame Restaurant, on the site of what is now the Gold Key Shops. It had 100 rooms, was 3 stories tall with a glass elevator, heated pool, color TV in every room, coffee shop, drug store, steak house and cocktail lounge.
