A "mission patch" for the "WEST AREA COMPUTING UNIT", celebrating the women of colour working as computers (the original, human kind) calculating orbits for the engineers at NASA's predecessor NACA in the 40's and 50's. They were portrayed in the book and film Hidden Figures. The smoke from the rocket is made up of actual equations from one of computer Katherine Johnson's technical reports. The rocket is the Atlas LV-3B carrying the Mercury capsule Friendship 7 with John Glenn in 1962.

The 77th Armor is an armored (tank) regiment of the United States Army. The 77th Armor Regiment is part of the U.S. Army Regimental System with only a single battalion, the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, and is therefore classified as both a single battalion, and the remainder of the Regiment itself. 1–77 AR is currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas as part of the 3rd Brigade "Bulldogs", 1st Armored Division and has transformed from a tank pure battalion into a combined arms battalion (CAB).

The 104th Field Artillery Regiment was organized as Battery K, 1st Regiment of Artillery I the New York National Guard on 3 April 1867. It would experience numerous redesignations and reorganizations in the decades leading up to it being mustered into Federal service in 1916 for Mexican Border service as the 1st Field Artillery Regiment. Drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917, it was reorganized and redesignated on 1 October 1917 as the 104th Field Artillery and assigned to the 27th Division. It served in three World War I campaigns before returning stateside and being demobilized in April 1919. It was redesignated the 104th Field Artillery in 1972.
