In the mid-'70s, Omega Man and Planet of the Apes were hot sci-fi films garnering a lot of public interest, so when you're looking for a new comic book title, why not merge themes from both hit movies and give it a vampire twist? Surely it can't lose, right? Sadly, 1975's Planet of Vampires didn't cut it and only made it for three issues before the title was canceled by its publisher.

The Beastmaster is a 1982 sword and sorcery film. Loosely based on the 1959 novel. The Beast Master, by Andre Norton, the film is about a man who can communicate with animals, and who fights an evil wizard and his army. Commercially, The Beastmaster was not considered a box office success during its original cinematic run, but later received extensive television exposure and success on cable TV. The original film spawned two sequels, as well as a syndicated television series that chronicled the further adventures of Dar.
