Popples were plush toys manufactured between 1986 and 1988. Each toy had a pouch on the back that could be inverted, so the character rolled into the pouch and resembled a brightly colored ball. Popples resembled colorful animals with long, pompom-tipped tails. The name "Popple" is a reference to the popping sound they make when unfolding themselves from such a ball, or pulling objects from their pouches. In the cartoon series of the same name, Popples commonly pulled large items from their pouches that could not possibly fit inside. In the "Popples Alley" episode, one of the Popples' human friends looks inside one of their pouches and sees numerous objects floating in a large void.
Dinosaucers was a short-lived but fondly remembered cartoon from the '80s. It ran for one season with 65 episodes via first-run syndication on weekdays. It is about a war carried out on Earth between two groups of anthropomorphic dinosaurs from the planet Reptilon. The good Dinosaurs are the titular Dinosaucers who fight a group of evil dinosaurs, the Tyrannos, who are on a mission to take control of Planet Earth. The Dinosaucers recruit a group of kids called the Secret Scouts to help them in their battle for Earth against the Tyrannos.

Dino-Riders is a 1988 action figure toy line based around the battle between the heroic Valorians and the evil Rulon Alliance on prehistoric Earth. The Valorians were a superhuman race, while the Rulons comprised several breeds of humanoids. Both races came from the future, but were transported back in time to the age of dinosaurs. Once on Earth, the Valorians befriended dinosaurs, while the Rulons brainwashed them. The toy line saw four series of figures released between 1988 and 1990, each of which included mini comic books with each figure and set. An animated cartoon series was developed that only ran for 14 episodes, along with a few VHS releases. A full size traditional comic book was launched in 1989, but was poorly received.

After Sophia Petrillo's stroke that very badly damaged the part of her brain that censored her thoughts, her daughter, Dorothy Zbornak placed her in Shady Pines. Sophia detested it, claiming that they were cruel there, but it is eventually revealed that the facility was a satisfactory place that Sophia just didn't care for.
In September 1985, Shady Pines burned down after a heater fire, causing Sophia to move in with Dorothy, Blanche Devereaux, and Rose Nylund. After a short time, Shady Pines was reconstructed, with Sophia not returning, however she did keep in contract with her friends and entered the talent show in one episode. Dorothy used the catchphrase "Shady Pines, Ma" to keep Sophia in order.
