Modesto’s City Skates opened in the summer of ’86 and quickly became one of the more popular skate shops. They were a family-run operation and not nearly as large as a lot of the big names shops, but were well stocked and really personable. They also put on a lot of skate clinics and demo events that were extremely well attended by locals and others from around NorCal as well. I’m sure that a lot of these tees and stickers were sported ironically, but who knows, there were a lot of straight edge kids around back in the day?
