Bakersfield T-Shirt

Maybe I was 8 or 9 or 10 when we drove to California to see the USA family. I recall it was too hot, sickly hot and there were rattlesnake warnings all along the side of the highway. I remember wanting to see a tumbleweed, but I don't think I did. I remember writing a lot in little pastel coloured lined note pads, I can still recall the smell of the paper. And I remember being so happy to see the cool mountains and twilight, knowing we were almost there and that it wouldn't be so hot, and knowing that I didn't like Bakersfield very much. Amen.
