The Citadel in the harbour at Essaouira on the Moroccan coast. This fortification was created in the French style under the orders of Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdullah in the C18th. He established Essaouira as his capital using European architects to employ the latest techniques and give it a 'modern' look (for the 1700s!). The Sultan named his city Es-Saouira meaning 'the beautifully designed'. Being a fishing port gulls are everywhere! This image has been given an 'oil painting' effect. Nikon D200 Nikkor 18-200
