August 21, 1883 Dear Diary, We had quite a party. The Hoarggs were wonderful hosts and had delightful games for the children. There were colorful decorations everywhere with balloons and ribbons strung all about. There was a dunking booth and someone from every village took part in it. The Hoarggs put on a carnival show and some dressed like clowns and were simply hilarious. I think they understood that laughter was a way to win hearts and minds, and they did. In a few hours time they erased a hundred years of mistrust and prejudice. They ended the night with a beautiful fireworks display over the river accompanied with Strauss waltzes.
