This symbol comes from the Pict people, a group of people who inhabited areas of what is now Scotland. They are known for their stone carvings, although the meaning behind most of their symbols has now been lost. This symbol is commonly called the "double disk and z-rod" and I have recreated it in my own style.

Vespasian was declared emperor by the Roman senate in AD 69 - the Year of the Four Emperors. He founded the Flavian dynasty that ruled the Roman Empire for 27 years. He is also known for many ambitious building projects, including the Flavian Amphitheater.

While the tripod and its base as here shown differ from the description of several authors, an attempt has been made to follow as closely as possible the symbolism concealed within the allegory of the oracle. The Delphic Mysteries used the oracle as their chief symbol, and it is the spiritual esoteric mystery rather than the historical and consequently unimportant aspect with which the student of symbolism is concerned. While the spirit inhabited the fumes, which entered into the body of the priestess, the tripod vibrated as though struck severe and repeated blows. The din increased control of the daemon over the priestess became more complete; the rattling and crashing did not cease until the spirit released its hold upon the Pythia.

Unlike Artemis, however, Diana was also a moon Goddess, connected with Luna in the same vein as her brother, Apollo, and his later connection to the sun. This is a classical rendition of 'Diana the Huntress', originally sculpted by Guillaume Coustou (1716-1777).

The Mesopotamian symbol Knot of Inanna; a stylized bundle of reeds, and a representation of the Babylonian goddess Inanna. Whom you've probably heard of in relation to the Babylonian epic of Gilgamesh. It's actually an early written form of her name. The background was created in pools of pink and a bluish green which were allowed to spread, blossom and blend. Plus a touch of dry brush work.

This design originally came from an engraving by Hendrick Goltzius in 1588, which I have restored, redrawn, and digitized. The text reads: "NON AMBIRE PROBAT SAPIENS, SED LAVDAT HONORES, LAVDA CONTINGANT SI TAMEN ILLA PROBIS. SIC PHAETONTAEVS NIMIVM TEMERARIA LAPSVS VOTA DOCET TANDEN FINE CARERE BONO." Which roughly translates to: "The wise man demonstrates that he does not search for but appreciates the honors. And recognizes if happens to honest. This design is based off one of the most famous panels of the Gundestrup Cauldron. It depicts the god-- often identified as Cernunnos-- holding a torc in one hand and a snake in the other. I've recreated the design in my own style making a unique take on this famous piece of Celtic/La Tene art!
