I kind of like the fairy-tale approach to composite image formation and can appreciate the work that goes into creating such an image... merging many layers and working diligently in post to create a built up photograph ~ so I decided that I'd like to emulate something as vibrant yet a single exposure and possible processing in post... but little more, something 'true to nature'. With this in mind and knowing the characteristics of the vintage glass that I was about to use for the first time after researching quite extensively - I decided on the main subject matter central to the plane of focus and allow the distinct attributes of the lens to work its magic on the rustle of the leaves... Print on paper Autumn Duck is an eight-color reduction woodcut created from a reference photo. I purchased my own second-hand printing press from the art department at a secondary college. They were replacing it with a new one, but it works perfectly. I really enjoy the process and challenge of printmaking. I find watching ducks on the water soothing and meditative especially among autumn leaves.

Walking along Kennetside in Reading on a sunny day in early autumn. This is almost at the point where the River Kennet meets the Thames. In front is the bridge taking the railway line to London Waterloo over the river and in the background are the gantries of the Great Western line to Paddington which crosses the river a little further on. Just past the first bridge on the right is the site of the old Reading gasworks, the last gasholder being demolished in March 2022.
