Description: Phillip Jung Brewing Co opened in 1896 and closed in 1920 it was open for 24 years. Items from breweries of this age tend to be more common and less valuable than some breweries. Early items can still be valuable as can rarer types of items. As a Pre-Prohibition Brewery, any advertising items or collectibles are likely to be valuable and desirable to collectors as they tend to be hard to find. Phillip Jung Brewing Co was in an active brewing city. Milwaukee, WI was listed as having 74 breweries, which is quite a few. Sometimes a large number of breweries can lead to an active collecting community that will be willing to pay more for breweriana items than other collectors.

The beer, billed as a "light lager", was golden in color, and was noticeably drier than most everyday beers of the era. Their longtime mascot was a bantam, called Brewster Rooster, who wore attire with Goebel's logo, and the beer was a long-time sponsor of Detroit Tigers baseball.

Valentin Blatz established a brewery next door in 1850 and merged both breweries upon Braun's death in 1852. In that year, Valentin's little brewery produced 350 barrels of lager. Its namesake beer, Schlitz, was known as “The beer that made Milwaukee famous” and was advertised with the slogan “When you’re out of Schlitz, you’re out of beer.” Schlitz first became the largest beer producer in the US in 1902 and enjoyed that status at several points during the first half of the 20th century.
